Facility Walkthroughs
What is the benefit of a facility walkthrough?
Day in and day out you walk through the same hallways. Over time, all of the nooks and crannies of the facility can start to blur. You may miss opportunities for improvement without a fresh perspective once in a while. A facility walkthrough with a West Bend loss prevention representative is intended to be an eye-opening experience. Not only will the West Bend rep be viewing the property with fresh eyes, they’ll also be armed with years of experience working with organizations just like yours!
How long does a facility walkthrough take?
A West Bend loss prevention representative will do a facility walkthrough with you on your terms. With that said, a typical walkthrough takes about one hour. Large facilities, or organizations with a wide variety of programs, can take longer though.
Who is typically involved in a West Bend facility walkthrough?
A variety of people may escort a West Bend representative during a facility walkthrough. Often times the organization’s President, CEO, or Executive Director will be in attendance as they are often the most prepared to answer a broad range of questions. It isn’t out of the ordinary, however, to have a Program Director or the head of maintenance to get involved as well.
For organizations with a wide variety of activities, like YMCAs or summer camps, several people may join the walkthrough. For example, it is common to have the Aquatics Director lead a walkthrough in the pool area or the Dietary Manager to escort through the kitchen.
What will a West Bend loss prevention representative be looking for?
In a nutshell… anything and everything. West Bend’s loss prevention reps approach a facility walkthrough with very few preconceived notions about the facility. The goal is to look at everything critically in hopes of finding opportunities to make your organization safer and more efficient. From checking fire extinguisher expiration dates to lifeguard stand locations, their only goal is to provide a fresh set of eyes.
Is a facility walkthrough anything like an OSHA inspection?
No… not even a little bit! You will never see a West Bend representative with a clipboard, checklist, and hard hat during a facility walkthrough at your community organization. A facility walkthrough is not about judgment or providing a passing or failing grade. As is the case with all of West Bend’s loss prevention services, the goal is never to propose requirements or mandates on how an organization must operate, the goal is to work as a team to reach the safest, most efficient, and most budget-friendly alternative.
What happens when the facility walkthrough is finished?
Immediately following the initial facility walkthrough, the West Bend loss prevention representative will sit down with you and your team to point out any glaring concerns. After that, you can expect to receive a full written summary of the rep’s findings, complete with recommendations and safety tips.
If any particular area of the organization requires more direct attention, you and your West Bend loss prevention representative may decide to schedule a full program review.
